In 1948 or 1949, W. H. Davis Sr., age ifteen, climbed to the top of the West Lynchburg Baptist Church steeple (it was then under construction) and took photos of the scene below, which included his father’s barber shop (to the top right of the Pure station). Occasionally he and a friend would take a pint of ice cream to the top of the scaffolding to watch the ball games at City Sta- dium. His descendents still operate a business in that shop, now Westover jewelers.
