Dedication
Mr. David. C. Brown came to VES in August of 1977 with a B.A. from Davidson College and a M.A. from the University of Virginia. He had spent most of the sum- mer job prospecting in Washington, D.C., almost losing hope in finding a teaching position. After considering a career in insurance and nearly signing with the Army, he heard of a German teaching position in Lynchburg. By March of 1978 he was well settled at VES, with his new wife, Ellen.
Like all faculty members, "Herr" Brown, has held many positions of responsibility. He has coached soccer and tennis, served on the Demerit Appeals Committee, and the Faculty Advisory Committee. In the fall of 1981 he became Chairman of the Language Department and assistant to the head of dormitories.
During March of 1979, Mr. Brown was approached by a senior, Robert Brailsford, to help the students publish the yearbook. Not only did they publish the 1979 edi- tion, but they also published the annuals of the two previous years, which were still in galley proofs. Despite his initial inexperience with publications, he and his staff have produced improved annuals each year. In 1982 the nearly impossible was accomplished - a spring yearbook.
In grateful recognition of his many achievements in improving the quality of life at VES, the V estige staff proudly dedicates the 1983 Vestige to Mr. David Churchman Brown.
