Tbe Laughter, tbe Fun, tbe Year
The 1989-1990 year can be viewed from many different angles: the laugh- teri the "rolling" of the campus, Mrs. Sjolund's "urging" people's participa- tion in the talent show, and Mr. Mundy's announcements for the Pan- cake Jamboree, the fun; of sports, concerts, and biking, and the year; the academics, the annual re-painting of the water tower, and the hoardes of new teachers almost as young as the students. These are all a part of being a member of the VES community,

whether teacher or student.
VES is not like most schools. Be-
cause of its small size and because most staff members as well as stu- dents live on campus, it is a very close community. People cannot get "lost in the crowd", and the events which take place at school or in a person's life have effects on everyone. It is one, big family, where people care about the lives of others. The entire campus counted down the days until th~ Mundy's child was born in March. Mrs. Mundy even let her students bet on his birth date to get extra points on her exam. When the Varsity Wrestling Team, led by Mr. Magnan and the co-
captains, Mike Silvester and Howe Grover, went to Woodberry for the state championship, everyone root- ed for them. When the Girls' Soccer Team achieved its first goal by Kim Adams and won its first game, the entire school celebrated. When the time came when seniors should be- gin to hear from colleges, fellow seniors, underclassmen, faculty, and not to mention Mr. "D" (the college counselor) all waited anx- iously with them. The laughter, the fun, and the year of each person have an effect on everyone. VES is each student's family away from home.
