Here's To You, Baby!
"Plea.ae pardon my aroma of pipe smoke," the man rapidly says a.a he perches beside you to go over your "salvagable" composition on r0ugh draft day. Y ou perform a reality check- no, you are not in the middle of watching Dead Poets Society- this is real life. Tenth and Eleventh grade stu- dents almost mechanically take down notes about messianic fig- ures, falls from innocence to ex- perience, and maybe a phallic symbol here and there. Iambic pentameter, alliterations, and metaphors haunt the dreams of his captive students. Since Mr. Foster's arrival at V.E.S. in 1973, the phra.ae "We will not look out- side unless there are dinosaurs approaching the cla.asroom" ha.a graced many a student's ear. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he ha.a coached various soccer and tennis teams, as well a.a upholding his "English teach- er" day job. In 1989, his twenty- fifth year of teaching, Mr. Foster deservingly won the Fulton Fac- ulty Teaching award. The 1993 Vestige staff, we being of sound mind and body, dedicate the an- nual to Mr. John Foster.
