Thses photos are by  the eclectic photographer Victor Wood (1899-1955). Wood grew up in Elon on River Road. He was the first male employee of Wiley & Wilson (they had a "girl" working for them already) and walked to work in downtown Lynchburg from Elon by going across the trestle (it was much safer then) and catching the Rivermont trolley into town. He worked for W&W his whole life and was a senior partner when he died. His father lived in Texas for much of his youth, so he sent his photos to him for critique. His photos show life in the country, his neighbors and friends, and progress through his social life in the city, and then his family life with a growing son.
