Description: Boyd-Winfree house - 1007 Federal Street. Built around 1844. Its days of renown were during the Boyd family ownership and there were lavish entertaining in the double parlors on the south. One of the houses to have gas lights in Lynchburg. Tragically Mr. Boyd was killed in 1855 when a gas chandelier exploded. Purchased for $10,000 Confederate money in 1862 by John Bell Winfree it remained in the family for over 100 years.
