  • Title:  Miller Clayton House
  • Description:  While enroute to Poplar Forest Mr. Jefferson passed by the house, then owned by the Owen family. He saw some ripe love apples (tomatoes) growing in the yard and stopped and ate some dispelling the belief that they are poisonous. In about 1811 the house was the residence of Ann Ursula (Mumford) Byrd widow of Francis Otway Byrd and she brought some furnishings from "Westover" to grace the house there.
