This was the packet boat Marshall which used to carry passengers on the James River and Kanawha Canal. Its greatest fame came when it carried the body of Stonewall Jackson from Lynchburg to Lexington. After the canal ceased operation, the boat wound up on the riverbank in Lynchburg and be- came the home of a family there. The hull of this boat is now preserved in Riverside Park.
