JJust as it is today, the area surrounding the intersection at 9th Street and Main Street, was the heart of Lynchburg’s business district during the War. In addition to being the location of the Market House, this was the most sought after of locations for businesses. This included the barber shops owned by some of the free African Americans living in the city.
