TYREE & WILKINS. This is the oldest realestatefirm · in Lynchburg, they having been in business for over twenty years. From a small pioneer business in 1878 it has grown to be one of the most important enterpds.e.s in_the city. They deal in all branches of real estate, buying and selling both city and country property, collecting rents and managing estates. The firm is composed of Samuel Tyree and G. H. Wilkins. The senior member is one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Lynchburg. He is a thirty-third degree mason, and has been president of the Tobacco City Boat Club since its organization. Mr. Wilkins, the junior and active member of the firm is a shrewd financier and a man of fine executive ability. He is a director and member of the finance committee of the People's National Bank, one of the largest financial institutions of Virginia. He is also secre- tary and treasurer of the Hotel Carroll Company. By strict integrity and attention to business this firm has firmly en- listed the confidence of the people in this section. They added a fire insurance department about two years ago,
which is under the direction of Mr. John Ambler.
JOHN STEW ART W ALKER &'co. The firm of John Stewart Walker & Co., real estate and investment brokers, has a most enviable reputation as to integrity, ability and fair dealing. Their business has gradually .expanded, year by year, and now the firm is nearly as well known in the State as in Lynchburg. They not only handle city property, mortgages, bonds, etc., but farm, coal, timber and mineral lands, manufacturing plants and investments of all kinds. Mr. Walker is one of Lynchburg's most progressive· and enterprising business men, arid it ·is mainly through hfs firm efforts t\lat Lynchburg is· indebted .for some of its hand- somest buildings. They also reorganized or sold the woolen mills at Bedford City and Clifton Forge, Va., and sold or re- organized numerous other manufacturing plants·in different
parts of the State, besides making.sales of mineral, timber lands and farms. Mr. Walker is one of the directors in sev- eral local enterprises.
