RANDOLPH- MACON WOMEN'S COLLEGE. This institution is not only the pride of Lynchburg, but one of the most important educational factors in the United States. It is the result of an ef- fort to found a college in Virginia which should offer to women the same advant- ages and require the same attainments for graduation as are afforded and re- quired at the best Virginia colleges for men. The college is located on a com- manding elevation on Rivermont ave., twelve minutes ride by electric car line from the heart of the city. The main
building is 364 feet front, with large ex- tensions in the rear, with every modern equipment for comfort and convenience.

The grounds comprise 20 acres, which is beautifully ornamented with shade and shrubbery. The elevated position com- mands a very extensive view of the Blue Ridge mountains, the Peaks of Otter be- ing clearly visible and forming a very inspiring scene. The college has a libĀ· rary of over 2o,ooo volumes, an excellent gymnasium well equipped, in fact every- thing found in a first-class institution of learning. The college is under the direct supervision of Dr. William W augh Smith, the president, who is the organizer and chancellor of the Randolph-Macon system, for which he has personally raised over a half million dollars. Dr. Smith is widely known as a writer and lecturer on educational topics. Person- ally he is an energetic and magnetic man of great executive ability.
