Murrell, Fleming & Co.,tobacco commission mer- chants, and remained with that firm until his election to the office of Commissioner of Revenue, July 1, 1890. Mr. Snead has been twice re-elected. His term of office expires July r, 1902. He was fire commissioner from the First \Vard from 1886 to 1890.

In 1879 he engaged in the feed business, which he managed successfully up to the time he was appointed Chief of the Fire Department, in 1883, a position which he has held continuously for the past sixteen years. Mr. Thurman is also proprietor of the Lynchburg Laundry.
